Window Man in the line of fire – for charity!
The well-known face of Safestyle UK, the famous “Window Man” aka Jeff Brown, recently placed himself willingly in the line of fire – all in the name of charity. The charity’s name: the NSPCC, the “weapon”: a wet sponge! Yes, on Thursday 7th August a wet sponge throwing event took place at Safestyle Head Office in Bradford, with several well-known Safestylers including Jeff allowing themselves to be locked into Medieval-style stocks and have sopping wet sponges hurled at great speed in their exposed faces!
Making a significant splash was Jeff, who made a typically “graceful” entrance wearing a Tommy Copper style Fez hat, and stole the show with his loud persona, virtually running the entire event. Stepping up to the stocks were some 20 Safestyle names, including Nick Lilburn (Group Finance Director), Dave Clarke (Head of 4th Floor Operations) and Paul Robertshaw (IT & Communications Manager). Bystanders paid £1 for four shots, and the sponges flew fast and furious. Paul in particular seemed to attract heavy bombardment, as well being doused unceremoniously with bucketfuls of water from the building’s upper floors! When it was the Window Man’s turn, well, the heavens virtually opened up. Needless to say, he was “very wet” by the time he was done.
All this action helped raise £150 in one hour for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), and the sponsorship money is still coming in. In the week following the sponge event were several other events, including a football match, raffle, and sponsored head shaving. The head shaving had two participants: the now-familiar Paul Robertshaw, and Mohammed Azad (one of our Customer Quality Assurance Operators). Both kept their promise to revive the Duncan Goodhew look, and subsequently raised a significant amount for the NSPCC – Paul raised £200 while Azad is still counting a whopping £4,000!
Well done to all those involved in the various events! This is all part of our ongoing commitment to help promote and raise money for good causes, and you too can help in your own way – you can check out the NSPCC’s website at www.nspcc.org.uk, or any charity that may be dear to your heart – it’s all for a good cause!
