Timber versus uPVC windows - which is the best?
At Safestyle we get asked many questions, and one of the most frequently asked is “Are timber windows somehow better than PVCu?” As we’re specialist experts in windows, doors, French doors and Patio doors, people may naturally assume we do timber products as well, as part of our extensive product line-up.
Well we don’t, and there are very good reasons for that. Price, however, isn’t one of them. The price of timber windows is like with any product - you can pay very little and buy the cheapest, crappiest timber windows, or pay through the nose and get the best, most expensive wooden windows money can buy – and the same naturally applies to any product. Whether you’re actually getting a better product is open to question. So you cannot really compare the prices of timber windows to PVCu windows, but you can compare their advantages/disadvantages…
Advantages of Safestyle windows over timber windows:
- Guaranteed not to discolour, rot, warp or twist
- Low maintenance (timber requires periodic upkeep for protection, eg, painting/varnishing)
- More flexible colour options: you can have a different colour/effect for outside of your home (such as Oak) and a different one inside (White)
- PVCu is recyclable, and has less impact on the environment than production of timber products
We don’t think there are any real advantages of timber over PVCu these days – some may say the “traditional look” makes timber look better, but even that claim is not entirely true now, as the latest Safestyle wood effect profiles look probably better than the real thing, so your home will get that “traditional look” you want but without all the associated maintenance hassles of real wood.
And as we manufacture all our products in our own factory, and source all the best raw materials at the best prices, we pass all our savings on to our customers – so you can rest assured that with Safestyle windows you’ll be getting the very best product at the very best price. That’s our commitment to you.
