Safestyle windows for BBC ‘Cash in the Attic’ winner

Safestyle have been helping the latest winner of BBC TV’s “Cash in the Attic” show to put the finishing touches on a property with new energy efficient replacement windows. The winner of the show, Robert Irving, had some of his most valuable possessions go under the hammer to successfully raise funds for new energy-efficient double glazing to complete the renovation of his mother’s property in Kent.

You may already be familiar with the “Cash in the Attic” show, which taps into the fascination we have of discovering hidden treasures, the junk many of us have stored away and forgotten about, which could actually prove valuable. The show aims to help us spot what could prove to be a genuinely valuable article amidst all the throwaway items.

Leopard Films produces the daytime hit show and Robert, an electrician who lives with his partner in Luton, was chosen for the show after expressing a desire to raise money to help get his mother’s windows replaced at her home in Deal, near Dover. He was filmed with the TV pundits rummaging through his attic and the results will be shown when the programme is aired in early 2009.

Such was the success of the exercise that Robert was able to contact us here at Safestyle UK and agree a deal for the windows to be immediately installed, months before the programme is due to be televised.

The auction raised some £1200, of which military memorabilia was a significant part, such as £380 for a Japanese Officer’s sword obtained by his father, a former Major in the Household Cavalry, when on duty during World War Two in the Far East. Other items exceeding expectations included two military helmets retrieved by his grandfather from the trenches at Passchendaele during World War One.

Robert in his spare time is an ice speedway rider and has represented Britain in Northern Europe and the Swedish League for over 25 years, still one of only five current British riders participating in the sport. Commenting on his television appearance, he said : “I was delighted to be chosen for the show and it was a really great day. The fact that we raised sufficient funds for the new windows was a real bonus and our choice of Safestyle and its installation has proved to be an excellent choice. The windows look great and will go a long way towards the overall renovation of the house.”

Safestyle UK’s Chairman, John Ross, added: “We are delighted to be chosen to put the finishing touches to Robert’s renovation plans and are sure the energy-saving windows will prove well worthwhile in the years to come.”
